How Unreal Engine Is Quietly Reshaping the Superyacht Shipyard
When we walk into a shipyard for the first time, we can always tell where the pressure points are: the design office is juggling revisions, engineers are solving spatial puzzles with complex systems, the sales team is trying to communicate a yacht that doesn’t exist yet, and in the end clients are trying their best to imagine a future superyacht from lines on a page. This is exactly where our studio steps in. With Unreal Engine we give shipyards clarity, precision, and visual power at every stage of the build. And the shift it creates in a yard’s workflow is immediate.

When you’ve worked in a shipyard long enough, you learn to read a client’s face before they ever say a word. That slight squint when they look at a GA drawing. The hesitant nod when presented with a static render. The polite, “Yes, I think I understand the space.”
You know—they don’t.
And as builders, you also know what that misunderstanding can cost. Sometimes hundreds of thousands. Sometimes months.
After we walked into a shipyard for the first time, we can always tell where the pressure points are: The design office is juggling revisions, engineers are solving spatial puzzles with complex systems & the sales team is trying to communicate a yacht that doesn’t exist yet.
That’s where our journey within the yachting industry began. Unreal Engine gives shipyards clarity, precision, and visual power at every stage of the build. And the shift it creates in a yard’s workflow is immediate.
The First Time a Client “Boards” the Yacht Before You Build It
One of our favorite moments is watching a shipyard team bring a client into a VR room we’ve set up.
We load the project. Hand over the headset. And suddenly the client is standing inside the yacht you’ve only just designed.
They walk through the saloon. Look out virtual windows. Test different marbles and woods. See lighting change from morning sun to soft evening glow.
Static renders, GA drawings, and paper samples can only go so far. But with Unreal Engine visualizations, your clients can finally feel the yacht:
- Understand scale instantly
- See materials change in real time
- Compare layouts on the fly
- Experience the full atmosphere of a space
And decisions that used to take weeks now happen in minutes.
Marketing Got Their Hands on It
The marketing team had one question:
“Can we use it for the yacht show?”
What followed were interactive sales experiences that stopped people in their tracks. Touchscreens where clients could configure interiors, giant LED walls showing the yacht gliding through sunlit waters, VR tours that made half-built yachts feel real.
We no longer had to wait for launch day to show a yacht in all its glory.
Engineers Started Using It Too
And then something unexpected happened.
Our engineering team began asking if they could use Unreal as well.
They wanted to visualize the engine room layout, pipe routing, HVAC channels—all the parts of the yacht clients never see but that make or break a build. Suddenly, clashing systems that would’ve caused problems months later appeared on-screen instantly.
A cable run in the way of a valve? Spotted. A ventilation duct too low for safe access? Fixed. A pump that technicians couldn’t reach once the room was complete? Repositioned before installation.
Unreal had become more than a presentation tool. It had become an engineering tool.
Today, Unreal is beginning to do something even bigger, it’s powering digital twins (living, breathing virtual versions of yachts that show real-time data):
- Fuel levels
- Tank states
- Battery performance
- Engine health
- HVAC loads
For the owner, it’s clarity. For the crew, it’s efficiency & for the builder, it’s a new era of after-sales service.
A Partner for the Shipyards That Want to Lead, Not Follow
At R-25 We’re a studio that believes a shipyard’s craft deserves technology that matches its complexity and ambition.
With us, you gain:
- A real-time yacht model built to the highest visual standards
- A tool that supports sales, engineering, design, and production
- Faster decision cycles
- More confident clients
- Fewer costly revisions
- A modern, future-ready workflow
Superyachts are works of art built on precision. Our role is to give you the clarity, tools, and immersive experiences that help bring those yachts to life—long before they float.
